About Galerie Lakaye

Established in 1990 by author/curator Carine Fabius and sculptor Pascal Giacomini, Galerie Lakaye is the premier West Coast destination for contemporary Haitian and international ethnic fine art.

Operating by appointment out of a historic, early-1900s Craftsman home and outdoor sculpture garden in Hollywood, the gallery offers an intimate, immersive alternative to the traditional "white cube" art space. We specialize in vibrant Haitian paintings by self-taught artists, intricate hand-beaded Vodou flags (drapo Vodou), and chiseled cut-out metal sculptures, as well as contemporary and master Haitian artists exhibiting around the world.

Beyond our gallery walls, we frequently collaborate with major institutions—including the Fowler Museum at UCLA and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs—to curate exhibitions, loan works, and foster a deeper global appreciation for Haitian culture and history.

Whether you are a seasoned collector or a first-time visitor, Galerie Lakaye welcomes you to experience the warmth, resilience, and brilliant creativity of the artists in our collection and exhibitions.

Carine Fabius | Co-Founder & Director

Carine Fabius is a Haitian-born author, art dealer, independent museum curator, and entrepreneur. She has dedicated her career to championing the visual and cultural arts of Haiti and artists of color from around the world.

In 1990, she co-founded Galerie Lakaye with her husband, sculptor Pascal Giacomini, transforming their historic Hollywood Craftsman home into a vibrant cultural hub. Pascal Giacomini | Co-Founder

Co-Founder & Featured Artist

Pascal Giacomini is a French-American multimedia artist, sculptor, and documentary filmmaker whose work explores the resilience of the human spirit through repurposed materials. Born in Paris, Pascal relocated to Los Angeles in 1983, establishing a career as a master craftsman and furniture designer before transitioning into large-scale public sculpture and functional art.

A profound turning point in Pascal’s creative journey occurred through his deep connection to Haiti. With his Haitian wife, Carine Fabius, he co-founded Galerie Lakaye in 1990, establishing a premier Los Angeles destination dedicated to Haitian art.

His own artistic philosophy fundamentally shifted after participating in the 2nd Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, which directed participating artists to create works found on the ground, just like the locals. As a result of his experience there, Pascal began creating works entirely from scavenged, raw debris—which inspired his award-winning 2018 documentary, Out of Chaos: An Artist’s Journey in Haiti.

Today, Pascal’s upcycling ethos continues through projects like Giaco Guitars™, where he transforms vintage 1950s American oil cans into fully playable, professional-grade electric guitars, as well as a new series of music and vinyl inspired sculptures he calls Vinyl Gods & Goddesses. His diverse portfolio—spanning photography, film, and mixed-media sculpture—has been featured at the Fowler Museum at UCLA, the Craft Contemporary (formerly CAFAM), and in historic architectural properties across Southern California.
