AZIZ DIAGNE

About the artist

Aziz Diagne is a self-taught Senegalese, multimedia artist living in Los Angeles for over 30 years. He works in a variety of artforms, including reverse painting on glass, watercolor and oil painting, ceramic, sculpture, murals, and printmaking. This exhibition will feature the artist’s dynamic Intaglio Collagraphs, inspired by his African roots and travels around the world.

Most of the works featured in the current exhibition are the artist’s collagraphs. Collagraphy is a printmaking process in which materials are glued or sealed to a rigid substrate to create a plate. Intaglio describes a printmaking technique in which the image is produced by incising into the printing plate—the incised line or area holds the ink and creates the image. Each collagraph is considered an original work of art, as the artist chooses what colors to use and areas to focus on for each new piece; the plate can be used to create new images a maximum of four times.
